definition of computerThe Computer is an important part of our daily. We use a computer to perform various tasks. The computers can be used for education, for example, we use computers to solve complex and sophisticated calculation, and students do their homework by using computers. The computer can be used in business field for example, computer help in keeping record of the cash, a computer is used by banks for storing information about different account holders, and there is no field where computer can’t be used. Study notes will publish a lecture about the uses of computer so stay with us. Today we will talk about how many parts a complete computer system includes.

What is a computer?

Computer: A computer is an electronic device. It has the ability to store, retrieve and process data. It can also convert data into information that is useful for humans. A modern computer is capable of doing much more through the application or programs like word processor and image enhancer. Devices on a computer can make copies of digital data like CD's and DVDs. A computer operates under the control of instruction that is stored in its own memory.

A complete computer system includes four distinct parts such as:

1. Hardware: Hardware in the computer world, refers to physical parts of a computer. Anything that makes up a computer can be touched is a hardware. There are different kinds of hardware some are installed inside such as Motherboard, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Random Access Memory (RAM), Power Supply etc and some are connected outside of a computer such as Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Speaker etc. The computer hardware devices are generally grouped into 4 categories such as:
  • Input Devices: Devices which are used for inputting data and information into a computer system is known as the input device Such as: Keyboard, Mouse.
  • Output Device: An output device is a device which is used to send data from one computer to another or user. Most of the computer output data are for humans and in the form of audio or video. For example Monitor, Speaker.
  • Storage Device: Storage devices are the devices which are used to store data files and objects. It holds information temporarily or permanently and can be internal or external such as Hard-drive or USB Pen-drive.
  • Processing Device: There is a processing device inside all computers called the Central Processing Unit (CPU). It is the brain of a computer where the actual processing takes place. The CPU is responsible for taking data inputted by the user and performing the necessary processing and producing the output.

2. Software: Software is a general term for all kinds of programs that is used to operate computers and related devices. For example, Windows XP, Linux, MAC OS X etc. The software's are generally grouped into three categories such as:
  • System Software: System software is used to control and manage hardware components and allow interaction between hardware and other types of software. The most common types of system software are operating systems such as Windows XP, 7, 8, Linux etc.
  • Utility Software: Utility software is the software which is used to maintain and protect computers, but does not directly interact with the hardware such as anti-virus programs, firewall, disk-cleanup etc.
  • Application Software: Application software is designed for the users. Application software is used by the user to perform a specific task or a set of task. Example of application software are web browsers, audio or video players etc.
3. Computer Data: Computer data is the information which is processed or stored by the computer. This computer data can be in the form of audio, video, text, images, etc. and can be stored in files or folders on the computer hard-drive.

4. Computer User: A computer user is a person who uses computer for work, entertainment, business or communication. A user often has a user account and identified by a username.
